This is a well written fantasy which is very descriptive and in-depth, Magpie is a strong and independent Fairy, and this book has lovely drawings so you can picture all the different characters. The only dreamdrk I wasn’t always keen on was the omniscient point of view.
Although it seemed a bit long towards the end of course I had some long days in which I was pretty exhausted, so I can’t blame that on the book aloneit was a worthwhile experience. In fact, I’m jealous that I didn’t think of it. If you like faeries, djinn, and a strong heroine with little internal struggles then you’ll enjoy this one.
I loved all the characters, even the despicable ones.

I never thought I’d read a book that was able to combine faerie lore with djinn lore, but it was done very successfully here. The world was dreamed by the powerful Djinns and there used to be many creatures in this world that have been hunted out of existence by humans.
I’m absolutely game for her second Dreamdark novel, Silksinger. And, as with all good cosmogonies, this one ends with the gods abandoning their children: These are just some of my favourite lines: Thanks for telling us about the problem. Maniac doesn’t mean anything to me, so when something awful happens to him I didn’t have the emotional – oh no! Skews a bit younger than her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, but still full of the same gorgeous writing and imagery.
She is interested in a prince but the two are too busy saving the world to think much about their feelings for each other. I was rdeamdark into the plot immediately. Our customer reviews I have read many books about fairies this year but this was the best of the lot. Found within the pages are beautiful pen and ink taylorr by Jim Di Bartolo that appear like gifts wrapped among the pages of the book.

Magpie is joined by a cast ranging from her ever-loyal crow companions Calypso, Mingus and Maniac to name a few and her friends Talon Rathersting and Poppy Manygreen, to the suspicious Lady Vesper to the mysterious and rather grumpy Magruwen. Omniscience, however, doesn’t always prepare readers for those character-to-character transitions.

But i found the ending weak and a bit too sickly sweet. Also, I just loved the crows. A particularly nasty demon, the Blackbringer, seems determined to attack Dreamdark, the place the world was created; Magpie and her faithful band of crows head there to warn the sleeping Djinn, Magruwen, that one of his fellow immortals has already been killed by the Blackbringer. The enemy is a fairly interesting one. But when a devil escapes from a bottle sealed by the ancient Djinn King himself- the creator of the world- she may be in over her head.
This book is at once mature but with a child like wonder. Life is too short to force yourself to read a book that just doesn’t interest you. I thought it was such a poetic touch to top everything off, the idea that stories can spur the recreation of the world. Anderson’s Knife or for tqylor of faerie books.
I remember this being a thrill ride of adventure, courage, and strong female characters as well as interesting characters in general.
