This book builds the solid mathematical foundation required to understand the quantitative models used financial engineering and can be used as a reference book or as a self-study book. He teaches graduate courses on numerical methods for financial engineering, as well as pre-program courses on advanced calculus and numerical linear algebra with financial applications. It also provides many straightforward pseudocodes for implementing some programming algorithms, such as Simpson’s numerical integration, Black-Scholes’s option pricing model, computing implied vol, Newton’s method, etc.
I bought this book before entering a top MFE program and found it is extremely helpful! Dan Stefanica has found a way to literally combine a whole introductory course in Financial Engineering in a page book. It is not an undergraduate level calculus textbook as someone stefaica think.
